This page describes my MSI Laptop. | |
I bought this computer in spring 2009. It first
debuted in fall 2008. The MSI Laptop was originally a barebones
kit. A computer barebones kit is usually the case, power supply, and
the motherboard. Laptop barebone kits are rare, and usually include
everything except the processor, hard drive, RAM, and wifi card. My
MSI barebone included the wifi card. My model has the 1680x1050
screen. The more pixels the merrier with me. MSI is a desktop
computer motherboard maker. They are big with the gaming
community. Although a friend told me that more recent models got bad
rap, I am very happy with my model. It is very easy to get to the
inside of it. One can even upgrade or exchange the video card!
Speaking of video card, I specifically looked for a laptop that wouldn't
suck at gaming. I haven't actually gamed much on this computer, im
embarassed to say, but It is still not a bad system. I bought the
barebones kit from ebay, and bought the cpu from ebay also. Next
time I should verify the serial number on the barebone kit, because MSI
says that this serial number is reported stolen! (UGH!) I got
the hard drive from newegg originally, along with the RAM, but i'm about
to upgrade the hard drive to 1tb, and the RAM to 8GB. The total cost
was about $1150. (Probably about $1400 if I hadn't fallen for that
too-good-to-be-true barebones deal on ebay!)
http://www.msiwhitebook.com/product_spec.asp?model=MS-1651-ID2 I did my homework before buying this system. I looked at reviews. I looked about other people's experience with Ubuntu Linux on this system. I looked up the performance of the videocard from www.notebookcheck.net. I looked at other potential models from Dell, HP, and Sagar. The MSI won out due to its price, and due to the fact that the Core i7 was out for desktops, and I realized that paying a couple of grand for a computer with a CPU that as going to be superceded by the i7 mobile was a bad idea. Only thing I would have done differently is 1) use the computer more (it sat around for a while, long story), and 2) verify the serial number before buying from ebay |
